Sheikh Mukhtar Raban is a son of Port Elizabeth and grew up in Masjidut Taqwa. He completed his schooling at Nasruddin Islamic School. He then pursued his Islamic scholarship and theological studies at the world renowned Islamic University of Madinah in Saudi Arabia. He completed a diploma and degree in Arabic Linguistics, Islamic Law (Shari'ah) and Education. He has also obtained a Master's degree in education from Stellenbosch University, and currently completing his PhD at the University of Cape Town.
From a very young age, he has served the Muslim community of Nelson Mandela Bay through his involvement and establishment of the city's Muslim radio station, working for various social welfare organisations and teaching at Islamic institutions in the Bay, including being a former Madrasah teacher at Masjidut Taqwa.
In addition to being an Islamic scholar and cleric, he is a lecturer at Nelson Mandela University, founder of and lecturer at Al Arqam, researcher at the University of Cape Town, and director of teaching and learning at the International Open University, the world's largest online Islamic university.
He is also a member of the Muslim Judicial Council (MJC) South Africa, a registered marriage officer for the Department of Home Affairs and a Commissioner of Oaths.
He has traveled to a number of countries around the world delivering talks, lectures and presenting at conferences.
Despite being a 'global citizen', Sheikh Mukhtar Raban is deeply attached and committed to his home town and community. He is extremely passionate about education and the upliftment of people.

Moulana Rushdie Nackerdien

The Imam primarily responsible for leading the Salaah (five daily prayers) is Moulana Rushdie Nackerdien.

Hailing from Cape Town, Moulana Rushdie Nackerdien completed his studies at Darul Uloom Al-Arabiyyah Al-Islamiyyah in Strand under the expert scholarship and guidance of Mufti Taha Karaan (RA). He has taught at various Islamic institutions, and currently teaches in the Madrasah at Masjidut Taqwa.
He also teaches Hifth and Islamic Studies at various institutes in Port Elizabeth.
He is a registered marriage officer for the Department of Home Affairs and a Commissioner of Oaths.
