Structured and inspiring Islamic education at Masjidut Taqwa Islamic Centre

MADRASAH PROGRAMME

Islamic education (Ta'leem) and nurturing (Tarbiyah) programme for primary school learners

"Not your usual Madrasah; but dynamic, comprehensive and life-changing Islamic education!"

About the PROGRAMME

Masjidut Taqwa Institute follows a vibrant, professional and structured approach to Islamic education focused on cultivating a welcoming and encouraging environment that enhances learning and teaching, and aims to foster love for Allah SWT and Islam in the hearts of learners.

The Madrasah Programme provides young learners with an amazing ‘after-school’ Islamic education programme that is carefully designed to complement the applicable age group, education level, cognitive and linguistic development, and Muslim identity formulation of the learner – all presented to produce committed young Muslims who strive to please Allah SWT.

The programme is developed and supervised by Islamic scholars and education experts; and Madrasah educators will be adequately capacitated, resourced and trained to provide our learners with excellent Islamic educational experiences, Insha Allah.

The Madrasah Programme will run from 3pm until 5pm on Mondays to Thursdays in the Education Building of Masjidut Taqwa Islamic Centre.

The programme will conventionally follow the governmental school terms and holiday periods, and will afford additional holidays for Eid and other Islamic occasions.

The Madrasah Programme will have two classes available during 2024: Grade R and Grade 1, Insha Allah.

APPROACH TO TEACHING AND LEARNING

A robust foundation in Islamic education undoubtedly strengthens an individual’s Imaan (belief) and identity to be a committed and practising Muslim, able to navigate society and continually seek Taqwa (consciousness of Allah).

With this as a driving belief, we prioritise teaching that harnesses the richness of Islamic education, foreground pedagogies of Tarbiyah (nurturing), and highlight the ethic of care and Akhlaaq (moral character) in our approaches.

We aim to foster and engender a consciousness of and love for Allah SWT, and our beloved Rasool SAW that must mold the character of our learners.

CURRICULUM AND SYLLABUS

Our curriculum experiences are designed to equip learners with a dynamic Islamic education appropriate to their academic, cognitive and social levels.

The syllabus is aligned to the common Islamic learning areas and subjects taught in the Madrasah/Maktab sector in South Africa, but has been strategically scaffolded and further recurriculated to align to the CAPS (state school) curriculum learning outcomes. The syllabus has also been further adapted to include learning areas that equip young Muslim children and guide them to face challenging societal trends and movements that contradict Islam.

Our Grade R and 1 classes will follow Early Childhood Development (ECD) and Foundation Phase framing (with particular foci on ‘learning-through-play’, ‘learning-through-discovery’, and interactive learning); and Islamic Studies will be taught following corresponding teaching approaches, where appropriate, Insha Allah.

The Madrasah Programme syllabus will be drawn from the following Islamic learning areas and subjects:

  • Quranic Studies (including Tilaawah, Tajweed, Hifth and Tafseer)
  • Aqeedah (beliefs)
  • Fiqh (taught according to Shafi and Hanafi schools)
  • Akhlaaq (moral character) and Aadaab (etiquettes)
  • Hadeeth (narrations of the Prophet SAW)
  • Islamic History and Seerah
  • Islamic Social Science
  • Islamic Cultural Studies
  • Arabic
