Booking Terms and Conditions for Masjidut Taqwa Islamic Centre (MTIC) Facilities and Venues

Facilities/Venues at Masjidut Taqwa Islamic Centre:

Mosque:

  • Mosque (male and female sections) – accessible from Entrance 1 (males), Entrance 2 (females), and Entrance 3 (males).

MTIC Edu Building:

  • Taqwa Coffee Shop – accessible from Habelgaarn Street entrance, Edu Building (Reception, Entrance 4), and side entry via Entrance 3.
  • Seminar Hall – accessible from Reception, Entrance 4, side entry via Entrance 3, and via the Taqwa Coffee Shop.
  • Boardroom – accessible from Reception and Entrance 4.  
  • Classrooms - accessible from Reception, Entrance 4, and via the Taqwa Coffee Shop.

1.   General Terms and Conditions

1.1. Compliance with Islamic Values

1.1.1     All events and activities hosted at MTIC facilities must adhere to Islamic principles and values.

1.1.2     No event may promote any ideal in conflict with the values and principles of Islam, Masjidut Taqwa Islamic Centre, and the local Muslim community. 

1.2.  Approval for Religious Presentations/Talks

1.2.1     Any presentations and/or talks of a religious nature or with religious inclusions must be approved by the Head Imam before the event. Please email: imam@masjidtaqwa.org.za with the overview of the talk/presentation (topics of discussion), details of the presenter(s), and attach any media/PowerPoint presentations that you would like to have presented.

1.2.2     Approval for religious presentations and/or talks must be provided in writing by the Head Imam.  

2.   Restriction on Western Music, Singing and Dancing

2.1.         No western music may be played in any event occurring at MTIC facilities.

2.2.         No dancing is permitted in any facility/venue of MTIC.

2.3.         No Acapela (voice-only) musical performances may promote un-Islamic ideals.

2.4.         Women may not sing in the presence of men at MTIC.

2.5.         Only singing of Anasheed (Arabic Islamic poetry) by males and or children may be permitted in the mosque if approved by the Head Imam.  

3.   Conflict of Interest and Anti-Competition

3.1.         MTIC reserves the right to decline booking requests of events and programmes that are deemed to be in conflict of interest, or in competition with any offering of Masjidut Taqwa, its subsidiaries and affiliates.  

4.   Dress Code

4.1.         General Principles for Dress Code

4.1.1.     All attire should be modest and relatively loose-fitting (not providing explicit contouring of the body).

4.1.2.     No items of clothing depicting imagery of animate objects, cartoon characters, or offensive language and/or gestures may be worn.

4.1.3.     No clothing and/or accessories representing and/or symbolising religions or beliefs other than Islam may be worn and/or displayed.  

4.2.         Dress Code for Women

4.2.1.     Modest attire (covering the body, arms and legs) is required for all women visiting the Taqwa Coffee Shop and/or Seminar Hall.

4.2.2.     Muslim women are required to cover their complete ‘Awrah (mandated body covering) as per Islamic law when visiting MTIC facilities.

4.2.3.     All women must be fully covered, including hair, full arms, and legs; to enter the Mosque.

4.2.4.     Women entering the Mosque are strongly recommended to wear Islamic attire.  

4.3.         Dress Code for Men

4.3.1.     Men must cover their upper bodies (including shoulders and upper arms), and cover their lower bodies with pants/trousers/Thobes/kurtas that extend below the knees.

4.3.2.     Men entering the mosque are strongly recommended to wear Islamic attire.  

4.4.         Dress Code for Children

4.4.1.     Children who have not obtained puberty are strongly encouraged to adhere to the attire prescribed for the applicable gender.

4.4.2.     Children who have reached puberty are considered adults in Islam, and are governed by the applicable dress code for the respective gender as reflected above.

4.4.3.     Children should not enter the mosque with clothing, accessories and/or toys depicting/representing animate objects.  

5.   Booking Terms

5.1.         Each facility/venue to be used must be explicitly booked. Booking a particular facility/venue does not extend to other facilities/venues at MTIC automatically.

5.2.         The Mosque can be booked by the general public for marriages only. The Nikaah Booking Form must be completed for marriages. Organisations interested in hosting a programme in the actual Mosque must liaise with the Head Imam: imam@masjidtaqwa.org.za.

5.3.         No food and/or drink may be served and/or consumed in the Mosque.

5.4.         No non-Halaal food and/or drinks may be brought onto the MTIC premises.

5.5.         The serving of warm beverages by the hiring party may only occur outside of the operational hours of the Taqwa Coffee Shop. Should the event take place during the operational hours of the Taqwa Coffee Shop, the coffee shop will be the provider and vendor of warm beverages. The hiring party should liaise with the coffee shop manager concerning the serving of warm beverages.

5.6.         No drilling and/or installations into/onto grounds/floors/walls/ceilings is permitted.

5.7.         The hiring party will be liable for any breakages and/or damages to MTIC property that occurs as a result of the actions of the hiring party, its representatives, and/or attendee(s) of their event. 

6.   Use of Wi-Fi

6.1.         The use of Wi-Fi is available to patrons of the Taqwa Coffee Shop. Should your event have an arrangement with the Taqwa Coffee Shop, please liaise with the coffee shop manager to have internet vouchers issued to the attendees of your event.  

7.   Use of Audio-Visual Equipment

7.1.         Booking a facility/venue does not include use of audio-visual equipment. Please liaise with the coordinator if you are interested in using any of the equipment.

7.2.         Use of the equipment will be at additional charges.

7.3.         Live video-streaming on MTIC’s platforms is restricted to MTIC-run events and marriages occurring in the Mosque. 

8.   Use of Desks and Chairs

8.1.         MTIC has a limited number of desks and chairs available. Please liaise with the coordinator to establish the number of desks and chairs available for the booked facility/venue. 

9.   Setup of Facilities/Venues

9.1.     Please liaise with the coordinator to establish a time for the setting up of the Seminar Hall and/or Taqwa Coffee Shop areas. Setting-up may be permitted the day before your approved scheduled event.  

10. Clean-Up and Dirt Removal

10.1.   Individuals/families/organisations that book the facilities are required to clean the hired facility/venue within one hour of the event conclusion.

10.2.   All dirt generated by the attending parties during the event must be removed by the hiring party. Dirt may be placed in refuse bags during the event, and the bags must be removed from the MTIC premises within 1 hour of the event conclusion.

10.3.   Failure to adhere to the booking conditions above will result in a penalty of R300 applied to the booking. 

11. Right of Admission Reserved

11.1     Owing to the nature of MTIC’s operations, right of admission to the facilities/venues is reserved.

These terms and conditions are subject to change without prior notice, and any violation may result in the cancellation of the booking and potential restrictions on future bookings. MTIC reserves the right to refuse or terminate any booking that does not align with its values and guidelines.
