MTLC’s annual Women's Wellness Day: A Tranquil Retreat

The Masjid Taqwa Ladies Committee (MTLC) hosted its 3rd Annual Women's Wellness Day on Sunday, 25 August 2024. This highly anticipated event has quickly become a favourite among the community. This year’s theme, “A Tranquil Retreat: Discover Inner Peace,” perfectly captured the essence of a slow Sunday dedicated to self-care, relaxation, and spiritual rejuvenation.

Attendees were treated to various indulgent activities, including soothing hand, feet, or back and shoulder massages, followed by simple henna designs. These calming experiences set the tone for the day, allowing the ladies to unwind and connect with their inner selves.

The event featured a compelling presentation by Dr. Kamiela Wicomb Hoosain, who shared her expertise in holistic healing practices. Dr. Kamiela introduced the BMW method—Breaths, Movement, and Water—as essential tools for achieving optimal balance in life. Her demonstration of proper breathing techniques and Islamic teachings resonated deeply with the audience. She invoked the names of Allah, specifically Ya Adl, Ya Muqsit, Ya Haqq, and Ya Salaam, to emphasize the spiritual dimension of these practices. MTLC extends its heartfelt thanks to Dr. Kamiela for her valuable contribution and meticulous preparation.

Following Dr. Kamiela’s presentation, wellness coach Sacha Park guided the ladies through mindful techniques using headsets, allowing for a truly immersive experience in the seminar hall. The session continued outdoors in the garden, where light movement activities sparked joy and laughter among the participants. The culmination of the experience left many in awe, with some attendees describing it as an out-of-body experience that moved them to tears. Everyone felt the profound impact of Sacha’s session, which left a lasting impression.

No MTLC event would be complete without a memorable culinary experience, and the Taqwa Coffee Shop certainly delivered. Guests were treated to a Mediterranean-inspired meal featuring chicken shish kebabs with peppers, minced and chicken kebabs, warm couscous, flatbread naan, and tzatziki. The exquisite presentation and delectable flavours had everyone asking when these dishes would be added to the regular menu.

MTLC would like to thank Dr Kamiela and Sacha for creating a life-changing experience that perfectly embodied the theme of a slow Sunday. A special thanks go out to the Taqwa Coffee Shop for their exceptional catering, 3 Broke Girls and Shah’s Décor for their stunning setup, Modest Sophistication for their contributions, and the generous anonymous donors who provided water, towels, embroidery, and various cash donations.

One guest summed up the event beautifully: "This was my first time at an MTLC event, but it definitely won’t be my last. I enjoyed every second and am so grateful to MTLC for hosting such a wonderful day.”
