Umrah and Hajj Classes: A Journey of Preparation and Learning

By Naajidah Brown

In the quest to deepen the understanding and performance of the sacred pilgrimages of Umrah and Hajj, Shaykh Mukhtar Raban hosted an extensive series of classes from 31 January to 2 May. These classes, held every Wednesday evening, offered participants a thorough grounding in the rituals, significance, and practical aspects of these important Islamic obligations.

Shaykh Mukhtar's approach was both educational and inspirational, guiding attendees through each step of the pilgrimage with clarity and compassion. The course was designed to equip pilgrims with the knowledge and confidence needed to perform their duties with sincerity and devotion. The classes covered various essential topics, including the historical context of Hajj and Umrah, the significance of each ritual, and the practical aspects of navigating the holy sites.

The culmination of the course was a detailed Hajj practical held on Saturday, 4 May. This practical session provided an invaluable opportunity for participants to apply what they had learned in a realistic setting, ensuring they were well-prepared for the actual pilgrimage. The hands-on experience allowed attendees to practice the physical acts of worship, from the Tawaf around the Kaaba to the Sa'i between Safa and Marwah, under the Shaykh's expert guidance.

Beyond the classroom, Shaykh Mukhtar demonstrated a profound commitment to the spiritual well-being of the pilgrims. On 13 June, as many of his students embarked on their Hajj journey, he took a moment to connect with them via social media platforms. This digital interaction served as both a means of support for the Hujaaj (pilgrims) and a way to keep the community back home updated on their progress. His use of social media underscored the importance of staying connected, even from afar, and highlighted the collective spirit of the Hajj experience.

Through these classes and his ongoing support, Shaykh Mukhtar Raban has significantly contributed to the spiritual preparation and community cohesion of those undertaking Umrah and Hajj. His dedication to teaching and guiding the pilgrims exemplifies the true essence of Islamic scholarship and leadership.
