YES to Youth Development

By Aqeel Slamang

For the past three years, Masjidut Taqwa has proudly participated in the YES programme, dedicated to providing employment opportunities and invaluable work experience to the youth in our community. This initiative, managed by our treasurer, Aadil Kahaar, aims to equip young individuals with the essential tools for a prosperous future.

In 2022, we welcomed Sharfa Brower to our administration team and Haafith Abdullah Fredericks to our media department. Their contributions have been invaluable in enhancing our operations and community outreach.

Building on this momentum, 2023 saw the addition of three new team members: Haafith Waseem Philander in reception and administration, Mustafaa Schmidt in maintenance, and Taskeen Shaik in media and communication.

This year, 2024, marks a significant milestone with the allocation of seven positions at the masjid. We are excited to introduce Zulfah Allie in Reception and Administration, Yaghya Jappie in Media and Project Management, Aqeel Slamang in Media and as a Waiter, Ameerah Davids as the Head Chef of our coffee shop, Aaliyah Isaacs as the Assistant Chef, Haafith Muzammil George as a Quran teacher, and Bongeka Nyathi in Cleaning.

Through the YES programme, Masjidut Taqwa continues to invest in the future of our youth, providing them with opportunities to grow, learn, and thrive. Together, we are building a stronger, more vibrant community.
